"I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power." - Thomas Jefferson 1820

"There is a growing technology of testing that permits us now to do in nanoseconds things that we shouldn't be doing at all." - Dr. Gerald Bracey author of Rotten Apples in Education

Intellectual Discourse on Common Core: " Yo, homies. The Common Core is Coming."

Use Rap Music to teach the virtues of Common Core in your classroom.

What do the following words/names have in common?
  • stress
  • rigor
  • Captain Kirk/Enterprise...going where no man's gone before
  • full court press
  • hot mess
  • double c double s
  • phat
  • yo, tru dat
  • national shared standards
  • S-Dawg
They are contained in this teacher generated (?) video on Common Core standards.  S-Dawg is wearing a sweatshirt, a skewed KC baseball hat, sunglasses and bling while she raps and extolls the wonders of Common Core.  She actually sings (?) "Yo, homies.  The Common Core is Coming":

Below is a student generated rap common core video that I wish was captioned.  Do you have any idea what the student is saying?

If these two videos are indicative of the public school discourse on Common Core, my advice would be:

Yo, homies.  Run for your lives.

Get your kids away from Common Core yesterday.
